Ehyal Shweiki, Chairman
Ehyal and his wife Kerry have four school-aged children. They share twenty years of collective independent-school experience. Ehyal’s parents were both teachers and instilled in him a life-long interest in education. Ehyal is a physician and surgeon. Post his medical doctor degree Ehyal obtained and continues to holds four, distinct, medical degree Board Certifications: Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, Neurologic Critical Care, and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. In further expressing Ehyal’s commitment to advancing one’s education, post completion of his medical doctor degree, Ehyal completed a Master’s of Science Degree in Bioethics. He continues to be actively engaged in clinical, research, and academic endeavors.
Shawn Capper, Director and Treasurer
Mr. Capper is a Principal of Wharton Hill Investment Advisors. Mr. Capper has been responsible for the wealth of families for 15 years. Previously, he was a Vice President at Lehman Brothers responsible to help expand the exposure to the high net worth market and introduce the extensive resources of the Private Investment Management Division. Prior to Lehman, Mr. Capper was a Senior Vice President at U.S. Trust Company where he initiated and ran the Wealth Advisory business for the Philadelphia area. Prior to joining U.S. Trust Company, Mr. Capper was a Portfolio Manager at J.P. Morgan Private Bank responsible for the management of over $1 billion in assets. Mr. Capper holds a B.A. in Economics from Rutgers University. He is also a CFA charterholder and member of the Philadelphia CFA Society.
Kevin Kahn, Director
Kevin is the Operating Officer of eCatcher Inc., one of the world’s largest digital commerce “coupon” sites with more than 40 million visitors per year. In November 2009, eCatcher also launched the popular TGI Black Friday app, which currently has more than 2 million users (iPhone and Android). Kevin holds a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Delaware and joined eCatcher Inc. in 2000 as its principal employee. Kevin’s work and leadership have helped direct eCatcher’s continued growth since the company’s inception. He is a native of Delaware and lives in Wilmington with his wife and children. Kevin has been actively engaged in parent/teacher educational endeavors and plans to further this interest by advancing innovative and rigorous technology programming at PRIED.
Advisory Board, Emeritus
Lisa Lalama is currently the Head of School at Wilmington Montessori School. She was introduced to Montessori education through her children and has worked in Montessori education for the past fifteen years. She is also an instructor at the Princeton Center for Teacher Education. She teaches classroom management, child development as well as language arts courses to teachers seeking their Montessori teaching credentials. In addition, Lisa has also presented workshops at regional and national conferences on topics such as mindset, failure, math and technology.
Laura Hullinger has been an educator for more than 20 years. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education as well as a Master’s of Education in Instruction. Laura’s work has been broad-based, encompassing school, district and state levels; across ages PreK to Grade 12. Laura is a National Board Certified Teacher, a designation amongst educators widely-considered the highest in certification achievement. During her career, Laura has had the privilege of working in a number of roles including that of classroom teacher, curriculum writer, professional developer, and instructional coach. Based on this expertise her recent work has included effecting a solicited request by the State of Maryland to assist furthering positive change in educational instructional practices across the state. Laura’s plans to use her experiential skills to facilitate PRIED’s innovative curriculum development as well as its formative program and educator assessments.
Laura Z. Orsic
Ms. Orsic holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Delaware. She is a certified Elementary I Montessori teacher, with 30+ years of teaching experience in independent, Montessori schools in Wilmington, Delaware. She is certified in Responsive Classroom, Schools Attuned and is currently enrolled in the Master of Arts in Teaching graduate program at the College of New Jersey. Ms. Orsic has strong interests in: arts integration in the classroom, effective teaching strategies for students with learning differences, and neuro-educational research.
Kerry holds a Master’s of Science in Nursing, with a focused specialty in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine and congenital heart surgery. Her more recent efforts have been specifically aimed in support and development of childhood education initiatives. Kerry served on the founding Board of the First State Montessori Academy, and co-founded Parent Teacher Organizations at the Elementary Workshop Montessori School and Wilmington Montessori School. Kerry is also the Co-Founder of The Program for Rigor and Innovation in Education, PRIED.
Susan R. Thomas
Susan received her Masters in Education from Temple University and has an BA in Economics from George Mason University. She has over a decade of experience as a certified USA Track & Field coach. Susan has coached several age-group National Champions as well as athletes who have gone on to compete in a variety of collegiate sports–football, track and field, lacrosse, soccer & rugby. A former collegiate runner at George Mason University and a devout yoga practitioner of over 20 years, Susan considers herself a life-long athlete and views physical fitness, healthy eating and restorative movements (yoga, breath-work, meditation) as components of a robust, healthy lifestyle. Susan’s method of training encourages balance, breath work, functional strength, postural integrity and self-awareness.
